threesixtyfive | day ten

Threesixtyfive was a year-long photo project. It all started by an invitation from my friend Simon Pollock. He persuaded me to join his freshly started group threesixtyfive. I'd be shooting a self portrait every day, for a full year. Yeah, quite a task.

For me it's all about getting used to seeing my face on photos, as well as having a model that's always available for experimentation.

On 31 aug 2008 I shot the last photo of the project. It's been quite a journey. I've become more aware of myself, my looks and my posture. Working with my camera every day for months on end has improved my photographic skills as well. I found new friends, been to new places, and seen familiar places in a different light (often quite literally). And it won't stop here.

Now you know why there are so many photos of myself in my Flickr photo stream.

Threesixtyfive software

To take photos of myself more easily, I wrote a frontend for gPhoto2 that can control my camera. Some features are:

  • Simple interface: shoot by pressing the space bar.
  • Ability to delay the shot so you can get into pose.
  • Ability to shoot multiple photos after each other so that you can quickly take several poses and pick the best one later.
  • Support for RAW and JPEG.
  • See your photo on the screen as soon as it's been taken.

There have never been serious releases of the software, but if you're interested in using it, drop me a line and take a look at the source code.
